Product Description
This piece has been painted as if it were to be used for a Djapu mortuary ritual. The
cross hatching grid pattern is the sacred design for the freshwaters of the Djapu clan
at their homeland Wanduway..
The grid also refers to the Wandawuy landscape which is a network of billabongs
surrounded by ridges and high banks. Its structure at another level is also a metaphor
for woven fish traps.
