Product Description
The Giman or fire starters were used by rapidly rotating the Guava stem ends back and
forth between the palms of the hand at right angles to the body of the Giman. This
would produce some embers which were put between dry grass and blown on to
produce the fire. Before the Giman was used the owner had to ask the Giman Spirit who lived in the
Milky Pine tree for permission to make a fire otherwise it would not start.
The binding used to tie the fire sticks to the Giman is seaweed fibre.
