Product Description
This pipe has been carved out of the one piece which is unusual in that the bowl is
generally metal and inserted into the hollow tube which may be wood or bamboo. It
is also much thicker than the usual Macassan design.
The Macassans commenced trading with Aboriginal Peoples in Northern Australia
form the start of the 18th century. Tobacco amongst other items was traded in return
for fishing rights for trepang or sea cucumber, a much prized delicacy in Indonesia..
