Buwathay is an important lawman for the Wangurri clan
The painting on this pole is the sacred design of Wangurri and could be either fresh water
or salt water. The pole itself is an analogue of the log/beast imbued with mangrove
worms floating in sacred water which mirrors the Ngoykal or Ancestral King fish.
Nyungala the oxe eye herring is included in the visual narrative to illustrate various
obligatory ties of custodianship.
