Product Description
Two young men gathered bark from a particular tree to use as poison to stun fish. An old man at
their camp asked if they could bring back some fish and they said yes.
The next morning after the men had crushed the bark and tied it in a paper bark bundle, they threw
it into the water and waded in to stir up the water. Soon barramundi, black bream and jewfish
were floating everywhere and the young men had speared enough fish to feed the entire camp.
They kept spearing however as they wanted more but had not noticed that the water was getting
deeper.
Beneath the waters of the lagoon old Yamani was getting very angry at what the men were doing
and sent a giant barramundi to lure them into deeper water. As they went deeper Yamani pulled
them underwater and took them to his underground hideaway beneath the lagoon.
Back at the camp the old man grew worried and went to the lagoon where he saw a long lump along
the ground and as he followed it he was stomping his feet. Suddenly his foot broke through the
loose soil and found it was a tunnel. Inside was Yamani and he began to sing a magic chant to him.
He could feel the young men inside Yamani and he pulled them both out
but saw that they were covered in slime so he put them on a bull ants nest. While they were on the
bull ants nest the old man began to chant again to bring the young men back to life.
The bull ants soon covered the men and as they did so their stings started to make them flinch and
come back to life. The old man was very angry at them and said ‘you see what happens”.
The next time you fish take only what you need because in our law greed has no place.
